Position Description = The Supplier Quality Engineer will lead the implementation of the supplier quality assurance program

agent that can achieve significant results within supplier quality and is able to execute with integrity and diligence with a
keen eye for the customer requirements is required.
  • Perform Supplier Quality System audits on potential and existing suppliers and coordinate assessment and/or
    corrective action plans with the Global Sourcing organization.
  • Support/Lead the implementation of PPAP methods and tools at suppliers in support of deploying the company’s
    Operating System to our suppliers (i.e. ISO9001-2008 and applicable TS 16949 guidelines and deliverables).
  • Ensure the production readiness of suppliers during new product launches and during component resourcing efforts
    through the validation of supplier process capability, appropriate utilization of Quality Planning and verification of
    supplier’s understanding of design intent (GD&T) / drawing requirements an inspection methods.
  • Develop suppliers to improve metrics that track trends in supplier quality performance.
  • Drive quality issue resolution and continuous improvement at suppliers through the application of 8D and Lean Six
    Sigma methods and tools.
  • Minimize production downtime due to supplier quality issues by working the 8D process and achieving progress per
    company’s established timeliness and effectiveness targets (i.e. time to containment, time to root cause)

Essential duties and responsibilities
Inspects parts and raw material, final inspection and adjusts gauges for conformance to blueprint specifications by
performing the following duties.

  • Perform final inspections prior to crating or shipment.
  • Complete and record welding, painting and crating inspections.
  • Witness tests with and without customer source inspectors.

  • Verify dimensions of parts against blueprint specifications.
  • Measure surface flatness and finish.
  • Compute unspecified dimensions and other data.
  • Set up and operate all inspection and test equipment, fixtures, measuring instruments, surface and depth gages to
    determine acceptability of dimensions, finishes, performance characteristics on any part, sub-assembly or product to
    specification or tolerance as required.
  • Perform surface plate layout and first piece approval or rejection based on configuration, dimensions, finishes,
    leakage, surface defects (visual), etc.
  • Use of inspection equipment such as optical comparator, profilometer, height gage, depth gage, plug/ring gages, gage
    blocks, dial indicator, caliper, micrometers, etc.
  • Prepare inspection records and reports.
  • Receive instructions from salaried or lead personnel.
  • Load and move material, equipment and product to and from work area or shop floor by hand or the use of material
    handling equipment, including floor operated cranes.
  • Work from blueprints, sketches, process sheets, layouts, and templates, written and verbal instructions.

Qualifications:

•        Excellent data and analysis skills.  Ability to collect, analyze, and report data in a concise, well organized form.

Bottom line requirements

1.  Bachelor's degree in an engineering or technical field preferred.  Chemical Engineering degree is ideal.
2.  1 to 5 years of manufacturing experience in a quality or purchasing related role including interaction with material
suppliers.
3.  Local or close enough for a short easy move preferred.
